Description: An old carriage drive and woodland, part of the Alnwick Castle estate; the woodland is actively managed by estate staff. The old drive is a public footpath used by occasional dog walkers. Once through the entrance gate, walk about 20 yards and turn up to the left by the stone Malcolm III Cross. Many of the trees have been felled from this area. Head up in the direction of the boundary wall with bushes to your left. At present there is no definable path. When almost at the wall you will see two dark openings into the bushes to your left, where a secluded and hidden den has been created. Inside, there is an old well-placed tree trunk which you might find useful.
There is a layby for parking 50 yds downhill from the gateway entrance.
