Description: Pier 40 houses a parking garage, athletic fields, booze cruises, trapeze school and several small public amenities such as an aquatic wildlife lab. There is an asphalt walkway along the water around the perimeter. During the day the gates that permit or restrict access to the back/river side of this walkway are open and there is very light traffic. There are a couple of benches tucked into large bay openings in the facade of the building. They are just out of view of security cameras. At night the gates are closed and it is not possible to go all the way around. Only the south side is cruisy at night. There are sometimes a few people fishing (and not cruising) but there is/are one to three locals strolling and lingering.
